Recommended Grade: All Ages
Our family loves scavenger hunts and find it games and this one is our favorite. We even came up with a new way to play it that teaches our kids the old adage “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Check it out below!
Materials
- Find & Seek Scavenger Hunt Cards (optional)
- Descriptive words of your own
- Camera
- Don’t forget Water & Sunscreen
The Game
We recommend using the Find & Seek Scavenger Hunt Cards, but if you would like to you can create your own. If you make your own, try coming up with new descriptive words that will challenge your kids.
Simply read your kids the word on the card and encourage them to go find something that words describes and take a picture of it. We like to play this game at the park or on afternoon walks, but you can do it anywhere! Sometimes our kids are a little competitive and want to see who can find the most cards, and sometimes they work together. Whatever works best for your situation!
Real-world experience
This activity has so many benefits! The kids are active outside, they are thinking critically, making observations, learning new vocabulary, and documenting what they see!
One of my favorite parts about this activity is that it teaches the kids something I never learned in school! How to take great pictures!!! As a professional, I’ve spent countless hours on a job site taking notes and making sketches but my picture-taking skills were not the best. Taking a photo sounds simple enough, right? However, capturing the right detail is not always that intuitive and it always seems like you are missing that perfect photo when you are writing the report. What better way to practice than with our family find it game?
